Hollywood actor Stephen Amell has revealed how WWE star CM Punk got his role on the pro-wrestling TV drama Heels.

Prior to his WWE return in 2023 and AEW comeback in 2021, Punk was cast as Ricky Rabies, a minor role in the Starz original wrestling drama series Heels.

Punk became a recurring character, making appearances in both seasons of the show.

With Heels now available on Netflix in the US, Stephen Amell reflected on the show while speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

During this interview, Amell revealed that Punk was actually a replacement, and wasn’t originally set to play this role.

Amell noted:

“So Phil (CM Punk) wasn’t originally in that part. We had shot a bunch of stuff with a different actor playing Ricky Rabies. But then with everything that went down with the pandemic, they had to bow out.

“So we got Phil in, and he was great, just a great guy to work with, good actor and I stand by my match that I had with him. It was a lot of fun.

“If that’s 5% of the reason could be that we got him back in the business, then I’m good with that.”

Former WWE Champion Batista has shared his honest thoughts on CM Punk as an actor, which you can read more about right here.

Following his previous matches for WWE, ROH and at All In, Stephen Amell has addressed the possibility of an in-ring return.
