Potential New WWE Signings Previous AEW Talks ‘Fell Through’ WWE/AEW

Former TNA World Tag Team Champions Motor City Machine Guns are seemingly WWE bound, but further details have shed light on previous AEW talks earlier this year.

Details of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s talks with AEW emerged in April 2024 after they became free agents at the end of March.

In July 2024, it was reported that MCMG were likely to sign with WWE over AEW thanks to a ‘better offer’ being made to the pair.

September 12 brought news that Sabin and Shelley were expected to debut in WWE soon, potentially joining NXT for its CW premiere on October 1.

PW Nexus has now provided further details of the talks with AEW, with Cory Hays reporting the following via Twitter:

“Both members of MCMG also had talks with AEW and for a short bit it seemed likely they would sign with Tony Khan’s promotion but those talks had fallen through.”

The report doesn’t specify why talks fell through with only the ‘better offer’ from WWE having been reported previously.

It was also noted in the PWN story that “WWE and MCMG had a meeting together to discuss a potential plan for the team to join the promotion and to get a feel what they would be offered.”

The meeting took place while Shelly and Sabin were finishing up with the independent wrestling dates that they had already agreed upon.

Part of the plans for MCMG, according to PWN, is for them to be the “face of the tag team division” in WWE NXT in a similar way to “how Giulia is expected to be the face of the women’s division.”

Giulia had her long-anticipated WWE NXT debut match, facing Chelsea Green on the September 10 episode of the show.
