Former WWE Star Addresses Potential AEW Signing WWE/AEW

A former WWE star has addressed the possibility of signing an AEW contract, setting out the conditions for such an arrangement.

Currently a success on the independent wrestling scene, Matt Cardona is well-remembered as Zack Ryder in WWE.

While he may be surprised that he is yet to re-sign with WWE, Cardona is aware that isn’t the only route.

Cardona, who was released from his WWE contract in 2020, recently spoke about the possibility of signing with AEW during a recently appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

Having previously appeared on AEW TV following his WWE release, he also appeared on ROH in 2024.

Speaking about the possibility of signing a deal with AEW, Cardona set out the stipulations, suggesting he would need to see a vision for his role, stating:

“If it made sense. I don’t want to be anywhere just to be a guy on the roster.

“And I know there’s no guarantees in pro wrestling, but I need like intent, like we see you doing this, or we envision you being here.

“I don’t want to just collect a check. Been there, done that.”

Matt Cardona wrestled two matches for AEW in 2020 before returning to face Adam Copeland in an open challenge on the March 30, 2024 Collision episode, and defeating Bryan Keith on the December 12, 2024 Rampage episode.

In December 2024, Cardona faced Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle with rumors later emerging indicating he was offered a contract.

Cardona would tell Van Vliet that, despite reports, he wasn’t actually offered a contract.
