Upcoming 2023 WWE & AEW PPVs Scheduled For Same Weekend WWE

It has been revealed that, as of the current schedules, a WWE PLE and an AEW PPV are currently set to take place on the same weekend later this year.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics revealed that May is scheduled to see Backlash (no longer called “WrestleMania Backlash”) and WWE King and Queen of the Ring take place.

WWE Backlash is set to take place on Saturday, May 6.

WWE King and Queen of the Ring is scheduled for Saturday, May 27.

May 27 is Memorial Day weekend in the United States and is when AEW has held its Double or Nothing PPV in Las Vegas.

Double of Nothing has, for the past two years, been on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.

Before that, it was on the Saturday of that weekend.

In an update from Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer states:

“Brandon Thurston reported that Backlash will be the first PPV after WrestleMania on 5/6, and they will run King and Queen of the Ring on 5/27. That’s notable because AEW’s Double or Nothing is scheduled for 5/28”

It’s always possible that either one or both of the companies could adjust their schedule to avoid this clash.

King of the Ring was a PPV event that WWE ran from 1993 to 2002.

It was featured as a tournament in the 2021 Crown Jewel where Xavier Woods was crowned King and Zelina Vega became the winner of the Queen’s Crown.

There was no King of the Ring or Queen’s Crown Tournament in 2022.

In December, it was reported that WWE had filed a trademark for WWE King and Queen of the Ring.
