WWE’s AJ Styles and Finn Balor have sent tributes to Hiroshi Tanahashi following his retirement at Wrestle Kingdom 20.
The legendary career of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s ace Hiroshi Tanahashi came to an end earlier today at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in the Tokyo Dome, where he was defeated in his final match by iconic rival Kazuchika Okada.
A number of Tanahashi’s former rivals from his career appeared on the show, including AEW’s Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, Jay White, Kota Ibushi and Katsuyori Shibata.
Throughout the day, a number of Tanahashi’s former rivals that weren’t present due to being under contract to WWE have sent their tributes to the Ace.
Taking to Twitter, AJ Styles said:
Some of my favorite memories are in Japan. Some of my favorite matches were with this guy @tanahashi1_100 he is truly one of the best.
Finn Balor also sent his tributes to Tanahashi, saying:
I will never forget being star struck as a ‘young boy’ sitting next to @tanahashi1_100 on the Njpw bus , only to be greeted by a gentle welcoming smile.
A true leader, leading by example with unrivaled professionalism. You inspired me, guided me, and pushed me to be better. Thank you Senpai and Congratulations on an incredible career
