Former WWE Star Wants To Face AJ Styles Before He Retires WWE

A former WWE star has revealed they want the ‘honor’ of facing AJ Styles before his retirement.

With a career of more than two decades, AJ Styles has recently suggested that he plans to retire as an in-ring competitor in the near future.

With Mustafa Ali currently in TNA Wrestling, the former WWE star has addressed his hopes that he would get to have a singles match against Styles before he retires.

Speaking to Rewind Recap Relive, Ali stated it would be an “honor” to face AJ Styles, reflecting on his history, saying:

“It’d be an honor. AJ has mentioned several times now that his career is looking to wind down, so to speak. If our paths should cross, it would be an honor to get in the ring with him.

“We’ve never had a singles match, we’ve been in like a tag match here and there, or like a multi-man or triple threat match, but never a one-on-one singles match.

“I think AJ is one of the most highly regarded, well respected sought out opponents, not just today, but ever. You’ve got guys from the past, present and future that want to work him.

“That’s one day what I hope to be in this industry, I hope everyone’s like ‘Oh, I want to work with Ali.’ Props to AJ, I’m glad everyone’s giving him his flowers.”

Ali recently returned to WWE, appearing on NXT and setting up a match against Ethan Page for the North American Championship at Showdown on October 7.

The match for the NXT North American Championship comes just over two years since Ali’s scrapped match for the same title which was announced before his September 2023 release.

After his NXT appearance, Ali reflected on a change made to his promo by Shawn Michaels that noted the scrapped match.

AJ Styles has previously commented on the possibility of one more match in TNA Wrestling, having returned at Slammiversary to endorse Leon Slater.
