Former WWE Star Criticizes Tony Khan’s AEW Roster AEW

A former WWE star and wrestling legend with a true mind for the business has criticized the issues he sees with Tony Khan’s AEW roster.

The owner of Ohio Valley Wrestling, former ECW, WWE and TNA star Al Snow was critical of the “bloat” that he sees in Khan’s roster.

Speaking on the Ad Free Shows Q&A, the former TNA road agent addressed Khan, saying:

“You have too many people.

“Understand that every one of those people that’s under contract is an investment.

“You can’t market and properly commercialize all of those people because you just don’t have enough television real estate to go around.

“When you have the television real estate, you can only sell one product.”

Drawing a comparison between wrestling and commercials, Snow explained that car commercials don’t try to sell “a car and a hot dog.”

When it comes to exposing more of the AEW roster to the spotlight, Snow added:

“The more you broaden the spotlight the dimmer it gets.”

He would also suggest that the simplest solution to the bloat was to cut the roster as much much as possible, going on to say that Khan should have a:

“laser-focus on those that they want to sell.”

Snow would state that he isn’t suggesting a roster of a handful of talent, but to find a happy medium that delivers on the being able to drive television wrestling, explaining:

“Keep that depth that you’ve got enough that when you need to build somebody you have somebody significant.”

He would compare the wrestling roster to a pool, saying it should be deep enough to dive but not “so deep that you might potentially drown.”

Previously, Shawn Spears had challenged claims of AEW’s bloated roster, addressing the fact that “a lot of people have jobs” and not being regularly featured is still better than “not having a job.”
