WWE Announce Kurt Angle Vs. Samoa Joe For Tonight’s Raw

To say fans were disappointed when WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle announced that he would be facing Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in what will be his final match would be an understatement. However, it appears the company are trying to make amends by having Angle face some high-profile opponents in dream matches during his ”farewell tour”.

It was announced that the former WWE Champion will be facing AJ Styles on Smackdown on Tuesday night, and this has been followed up with an announcement that Kurt will be going one-on-one with United States Champion Samoa Joe in a re-match from their classic TNA bouts back in 2005/6.

Samoa Joe, along with AJ Styles was one of the performers that fans wanted to see Angle wrestle in his final bout at the show of shows. Their TNA matches were fantastic and whilst Angle might not be able to work like he did 13 years ago, the bout has the potential to be great. It is nice to see Angle facing more reputable opponents like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe rather than Apollo Crews and Chad Gable as he has in previous weeks. WWE is most likely trying to appease the fans who were disappointed about Angle’s final opponent.

It still remains to be seen if Angle will actually be facing Baron Corbin come April 7th. The fan backlash to the announcement was enormous and WWE surprisingly acknowledged this on commentary, making many people believe it could be a work, with a bigger opponent being lined up for the Olympic gold medalist. It has even been reported that Kurt himself was disappointed with the match, lobbying to face John Cena at the show.
