WWE announcer and backstage interviewer Byron Saxton has commented on the possibility of an in-ring return.
Before joining the broadcast team, Saxton was a wrestler in WWE’s previous developmental system FCW and a contestant on NXT in 2010 and 2011.
However, his last match came in FCW in 2012 and he hasn’t wrestled since then, instead transitioning to a role on commentary that he held for many years across different shows, and now his current role as a backstage interviewer.
Speaking with Metro, Saxton said he will never rule out a return to the ring and is open the possibility. He said:
“Of course, we all hear the famous quote all the time, ‘Never say never’, right? Which is true.
“So I will not say never, because the one thing anyone who steps in the ring can tell you is that that bug, that rush that you get from the crowd, never leaves you.
“Are you at peace with not competing? Sure. Are you okay with not competing? Yes. However, there’s always that little part of you that misses just getting a bunch of someone in the face. So, you never know.”
When he was asked if he was in physical shape to return, Saxton replied:
“I like to believe that I maintain a respectable level of physical conditioning. But of course, if I were to actually consider getting in the ring, that’s a completely different level of conditioning, as opposed to hopping on a treadmill or elliptical.
“But, you know, listen – I never know what tomorrow brings, and that’s the beauty of life.”
