WWE often says that Survivor Series is the only time wrestlers from Raw go head-to-head with wrestlers from SmackDown, but it doesn’t appear as if that’s the case as WWE has announced an inter-brand match for WrestleMania.
It was announced on Raw that Kabuki Warriors from the red brand will defend their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against the women they beat to win the titles back in October, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross from SmackDown.
This is interesting as the original plan for the show had Natalya and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix also in the match. However, as has been the case with several matches, Coronavirus caused the plans to change.
The Women’s Tag Team Championships were supposed to be defended across all brands. However, they really haven’t been properly since being introduced just over a year ago.
This will be the first time that Kairi Sane and Asuka defend their titles in 2020. Their last defence came at the TLC pay-per-view in December 2019 when they defeated Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in the show’s main event.
Their last defence against a SmackDown act also came in December 2019 at the Starrcade special event. They defended the straps in a four-way match that featured Bayley & Sasha Banks and Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss.
