A big update has emerged on the potential release of yet another AEW star who’s expected to be on his way to WWE.
Malakai Black, Miro and Ricky Starks all departed AEW last week having previously requested their releases, with Starks already showing up in WWE on this week’s episode of NXT.
Another name that’s known to be wanting out of AEW but wasn’t included in those releases is Rey Fenix.
Fenix was initially supposed to join Penta in leaving AEW and joining WWE as a tag team, but he had injury time added to the end of his AEW deal, keeping him with the company until that time runs out.
There were reports that he was discussed as a release along with the other three, but evidently the decision was made to keep him with the company.
However, in the latest update on proceedings, Sportskeeda’s Dr Chris Featherstone reports that negotiations between Khan and Fenix over Fenix’s release are “progressing”.
The resolution – meaning Fenix’s departure from AEW – is now “expected to happen soon”.
Featherstone notes that Khan was recently given advice to “put an end” to the situation.
As noted, the expectation when Fenix exits AEW is for him to join WWE and reunite with his brother and tag team partner Penta.
We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
