Commentary Team For WWE Backlash 2025 Confirmed WWE

The commentary team that will be calling the action at WWE Backlash 2025 tonight in St Louis has been confirmed.

Tonight’s premium live event will notably see the return to in-ring action of Pat McAfee after almost three years since his last real match.

McAfee, the color commentator for Raw, would usually form one third of the commentary team for PLEs, alongside his Raw partner Michael Cole and SmackDown’s Wade Barrett.

With McAfee unable to be on commentary tonight due to his match against GUNTHER, the team calling the action has been revealed.

There will be no ‘replacement’ for McAfee as the event will be called by the duo of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett, WWE has confirmed.

Cole and Barrett have been regular partners in the past, before Joe Tessitore came into WWE last year and was paired with Barrett.

Tessitore and Barrett are the current commentary team for SmackDown.

The aforementioned McAfee vs GUNTHER match could end up being McAfee’s first ‘real’ match since he faced Baron Corbin at SummerSlam 2022.

He made his in-ring debut in NXT against Adam Cole in 2020, competing in the WarGames match shortly after as McAfee, Pete Dunne, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan faced the Undisputed Era.

McAfee went on to have a match against, and defeated, Austin Theory at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, before McAfee then had a “match” against Vince McMahon straight after, which McMahon dominated and won.

Since then, he’s also officially defeated The Miz at WrestleMania 39 (again, not really a ‘match’), and was part of the 2024 Royal Rumble for a matter of seconds before he decided to eliminate himself so he didn’t have to face off against Bron Breakker and Omos.
