Former WWE Champion Discusses Backstage Role & Future WWE

A WWE Hall of Famer has opened up about their backstage role and whether they could see it becoming a full-time opportunity.

Currently, Michelle McCool serves as a coach on the second season of WWE LFG, which premiered on June 22.

With the A&E reality television show now underway, McCool was recently asked if she’d like to transition to a full-time coaching role in wWE.

Speaking to Takedown on Sports Illustrated, the former WWE Women’s Champion doubted she would go full-time, and shared her thoughts on the work in the Performance Center, saying:

“I don’t know about backstage on a weekly basis. But I really have enjoyed working with the kids down there.

“Going in, I kind of felt like an impostor. I’m like, with him and Booker and Bubba and Shawn’s running the place, and, like, I tell all them what they do in front of these guys,

“I would have been so nervous, so intimidated every single day. It’s incredible that they can just literally get out there, perform, take the criticism, and grow week to week.”

Despite feeling like an imposter and witnessing the level of work in the WWE Performance Center, McCool would reveal that she has enjoyed her coaching work, stating:

“But I’ve really enjoyed it. I think I kind of found my groove, and I’ve really enjoyed the coaching part and getting to help the guys and girls, and believing that I do have something to contribute to them, and having that confidence.

“So, I have enjoyed that, I don’t know about a weekly basis at TV, but the ones down at developmental, I’ve really enjoyed it.”

While a full-time backstage role may be off the cards, McCool has pitched the possibility of an in-ring return with her LayCool tag team partner Layla.

Michelle McCool was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025.

Alongside being a two-time WWE Women’s Champion, McCool was the inaugural WWE Divas Champion, holding the title on two occasions.
