WWE Backstage Reaction To CM Punk Potentially Leaving AEW AEW

The backstage reaction in WWE to the reports of CM Punk potentially leaving AEW has been revealed.

As previously reported, All Elite Wrestling is reportedly in talks with CM Punk for a potential buyout of the remaining years of his contract that would allow him to leave the company.

The holdup in the discussion has been a non-compete clause for Punk, which points to AEW’s concern of a potential jump to WWE.

Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update on WWE’s backstage reaction to this new report, noting that their WWE sources provided some insight on background.

Although they didn’t think Vince McMahon would bring in CM Punk following Brawl Out, the Triple H regime’s line of thinking may be that the right situation, right money and right creative can leave the door open for “anything with reason”.

The report also notes that Fox pushed for Punk’s return to happen before he eventually signed with All Elite Wrestling last year.

One source noted how there is conflicting things at play with this situation, saying:

“Triple H wants to be a success and make compelling programming more than anything. CM Punk back in WWE is compelling programming, but I can’t see it being a full-time deal like what he has in AEW, because of exactly what happened in AEW. That’s even if he as interest. If he gets a buyout he may not need to work again.”

CM Punk, Tony Khan and AEW have not confirmed the buyout news, so it remains to be seen what Punk’s future holds.

We will have further updates on CM Punk’s status with AEW when they become available.
