WWE Backstage Reaction To Dean Ambrose Departure

The wrestling world was shocked yesterday by the news that Dean Ambrose would not be renewing his WWE contract, and will be leaving the company in April when it expires.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about the general reaction backstage from other WWE superstars.

Meltzer noted that while he fully believes that the news of Ambrose’s impending departure is true, he understands that some stars backstage were not clear on whether it was a work or not. This is because WWE took the unusual decision to announce the departure ahead of time on their website, something very out of character for the company.

He also noted that it is his understanding that a number of stars were unaware of the departure until it was announced on Tuesday, and only very few people were aware prior to this.

Creatively speaking, it is believed that the writers were not aware when the Dean segment with Nia Jax aired, that it was done to humiliate him on the way out of the company, and that a number of people were shocked to hear that he had turned down such a lucrative deal.

Ambrose however remained set on the fact that it was not about the money and simply that he is unhappy in WWE.

Meltzer finished by noting that, while he doesn’t know where Ambrose will go next, that he is very good friends with Cody and Chris Jericho.
