WWE’s Bayley Opens Up On Not Being Called Up With Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks & Charlotte WWE

Bayley has opened up on her thoughts on not being called up to the WWE main roster with Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch in 2015.

Three of the four horsewomen made their main roster debuts in July 2015, with Bayley being the sole horsewoman left in NXT that Summer.

While being the only one left in NXT, Bayley evolved into the ace of the NXT women’s division after defeating Sasha for the NXT Women’s Championship at Takeover Brooklyn.

Speaking on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast, Bayley opened up on her thoughts on being left alone in NXT, and how initially it was painful, but it led to her growing overall as a performer.

She said:

“Yeah it was weird. When it did happen it was very painful and I thought I had done something wrong, and I just wasn’t good enough, I had always been a latch under them.

“I remember Sasha texting me that night, I had no idea they were called up until the night they were debuting, she text me. She was like ‘hey, just want you to know that we’re all debuting tonight. Thanks so much for everything, you helped me get to this point and I love you so much’.

“I didn’t even know what to say, I’m just sitting on my couch at home. It was very hard at first but I really think that year in NXT on my own, because we leaned on each other, we relied on each other, if I needed something they would help me and we were always working together, now I was there by myself.

“I wasn’t the champion yet, but I got to become my own person without them. I had nobody else to rely on, that’s where I believe I learned my leadership skills, and I was having these matches with girls that were having their first match ever. I taught Lacey Evans how to do a headlock takeover, I had some of the girls first matches in NXT, so that was something I took great pride in, and I think I just grew a lot.

“It’s like a different learning experience when you’re teaching somebody. I’m also learning as I’m teaching people too. It was a lot of the women that didn’t come from wrestling, their questions were different from somebody who was already on the indies.

“Sonya Deville would ask such good questions that I never thought about because I’m like ‘we’ll do this and this because it’s wrestling’. She would be like ‘why would I do that? You just punched me in the stomach, why would I go and do that?’ That’s a good question, let me go and rethink it.

“So now when I look back, that year really helped prepare me for everything, and helped prepare me for like, even the stage I’m in now. And I also think, we talk about all you guys paving the way for us and making it easier for us nowadays. Having Becky, Charlotte and Sasha up there already helped me, because the locker room was still, walking on eggshells, so by the time I got there I think NXT girls were being accepted, so it softened it up for me, and I had my girls there along with like Nattie, Tamina and Naomi, they just were the best.

“It was hard at first, but now when I think about it, it was probably what was best for me, and I got to be the champion. This was when we first started touring in NXT outside of Full Sail, we went overseas, so being able to take that championship and represent the division everywhere was some of my best memories ever.”
