Big WWE Title Change Not The Original Plan? WWE

A top WWE star has revealed that they don’t believe a title win and its relatively short-lived run was the original creative plan.

Becky Lynch and Lita held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship for forty-one days, having defeated Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky) on the February 27 episode of Raw.

Becky Lynch has now addressed the championship run on Mark Andrews: My Love Letter to Wrestling, saying:

“Well, it was all a bit crazy (winning Women’s Tag Titles with Lita). When that was decided, I don’t think that was ever meant to be the plan and then they just took a side road and decided that would be the best outcome.

“I think what was so great going into that match was that nobody knew what was going to happen and people had ideas… and then we could go this way or we could go that way. There was so many ways we could go.

“Then to be standing side by side with the woman that inspired (me) to get into this in the first place when we’re talking about that grassroots thing… and I was coming down with my dyed red hair and my baggy pants and wearing my thong outside my clothes and trying to look like Lita and here I was standing side by side as an equal about to go capture the tag titles.”

“If you’re telling your teenage self that’s gonna happen when you’re older, teenage self would slap you across the face and tell you to get realistic, you know what I mean?”

A lot of plans regarding the women’s division changed a lot around that time due to Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler being added to the tag team division, but Rousey then suffering an injury that put her out of action.

It had been reported that the overall original plan would have been for Rousey and Baszler to win the title from Damage CTRL at WrestleMania.

Lynch would go on to discuss the impact of having Lita as a friend and mentor, before touching on her own character, revealing:

“So yeah, it was really awesome but she’s over the years become such a great friend and a mentor and I think because she was that misfit, that little rock and roll grunger that had big dreams and she recognized that in me, that it didn’t necessarily fit the mold but I had that love for the business and I think we’ve kind of been kindred spirits in that way.

“Sometimes as a babyface, I almost don’t know how to interact with other babyfaces because The Man is so untrusting of everybody because she’s been burned so many times that sometimes I’m like… hello friend? (she laughed) I feel very awkward in that setting but if I was going to have a tag team partner, you couldn’t ask for better.

“But even having gotten to do the story with her last year, as short as it was, it was one of the stories in wrestling that I’ve been most proud of and one of the matches I’m most proud of so now I’ve had a lot of history with the person who inspired me the most, the woman who inspired me the most which is great.”

Lynch and Lita’s run would be cut short by Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez with Stratus subbing for an “injured” Lita on April 10, 2023, and when Lynch and Stratus lost that match, Stratus turned heel and attacked Lynch afterwards.

Becky Lynch made her return to WWE television on the May 8 episode of WWE Raw, to finally confront Trish Stratus.
