WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix has reflected on the Shakespearean quality of a violent moment she shared with Rhea Ripley.

On July 26, 2024, it was reported that Phoenix was no longer under contract with WWE bringing to an end a run that started in 2004 in OVW.

Phoenix recently appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet and shared her thoughts on a moment from Extreme Rules 2022.

The October 2022 Extreme Rules PLE saw an I Quit match between Edge and Finn Balor which featured interference from Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley.

Beth Phoenix would be on hand, too, to save her husband from an attack but Edge would be forced to say “I quit” to save her from a Con-chair-to at the hands of Ripley.

With a Judgment Day victory, Ripley still delivered the Con-chair-to a prone Phoenix after the bell had sounded.

Speaking about the violence of the Con-chair-to with Van Vliet, Phoenix explained:

“They had never done that to a woman before. So we were like, ‘Are they going to let us do this?’ It’s a violent, violent thing to see and it’s a violent thing to see a woman doing it to another woman.

“So there was just so much Shakespeare in that, in the ending of that match, that it was just beautifully orchestrated, and everybody played their role perfectly.”

Phoenix would describe feeling really happy with the match after it was over, stating:

“It was chaos, but in the end it was just so much fun. I remember coming to the back and we all just kind of were like reveling in the crowd reactions.

“The story we told is what we wanted to tell, that played out as beautifully and as perfectly as it could — and it was really fun.”

Following her WWE departure, Phoenix also touched upon the possibility of a wrestling return.

With her husband, Adam Copeland, in AEW, it has also been reported that Phoenix joining the company ‘has been broached backstage‘, though there has been no confirmation that both parties have entered conversations.
