Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley doesn’t seem happy about being left off the card for WrestleMania 39 this past weekend.
Lashley had been planned for a match against Bray Wyatt (after Lesnar had already rejected the idea of facing Wyatt), but Wyatt has been ill and off TV for several weeks.
In Wyatt’s absence, Lashley was off TV as well, but returned to win the Andre The Giant battle royal on the pre-WrestleMania SmackDown.
In the weeks prior, and even after his battle royal win, Lashley had posted on social media about wanting to have a match at Mania, which led many people to believe that was leading to it actually happening.
However, it didn’t, and all we saw of Lashley was a brief on-stage celebration with his Andre The Giant trophy on night two.
Lashley posted a video on social media on Sunday evening before the show, saying not being on the show was “one of the toughest pills to swallow”.
He also got a bit emotional speaking about a text he got from his son asking if he was going to be on the show.
He concluded with:
“This won’t be it for me, this won’t be it for me. Just a little bump in the road… huge bump in the road, but… back to the drawing board.”
It’s unclear if this means it’s being turned into a storyline, or if it was just Lashley sharing his real feelings and not part of any WWE plan.
There may be a clue in a Fightful Select report, which stated that Lashley had legitimately pushed for a match on the card, but it didn’t come to fruition.
Lashley spoke in an interview some time ago and said that he’d pitched the idea of a storyline where he would become depressed and out-of-shape, then turn it around and get back in shape, but he said that was rejected.
We don’t know either way yet, but he definitely sounded really upset in the video so either it could be the start of something potentially like that pitch, or, he’s just genuinely really sad. Of course, both could be true, we’ll just have to wait and see.
