WWE is loading Friday’s episode of SmackDown on FOX, despite the fact that it’s taking place on Christmas Day, and has booked another major match for the show.
At TLC last night, Kevin Owens was unable to defeat Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in what was a great match. The pair will go one-on-one on SmackDown later for the Universal Championship this week in a Steel Cage match.
The major match was announced this afternoon on WWE.com, with the company writing the following:
At WWE TLC, Universal Champion Roman Reigns employed the help of his cousin Jey Uso to add to his overall advantage against the ultra-resilient Kevin Owens and ultimately secured the victory in an absolutely brutal Tables, Ladders & Chair Match.
But there will be no one and nothing to help either Superstar when they are locked inside the unforgiving steel on the blue brand. KO challenges The Big Dog a Universal Championship Rematch inside a Steel Cage, this Friday at 8/7 C on SmackDown.
The match certainly makes sense, as Kevin Owens will have the legitimate gripe that Jey Uso was a major factor in Roman Reigns being able to successfully defend the Universal Championship at TLC last night.
Also on TLC last night, Big E pinned Sami Zayn in the eight-man tag team match that took place on the kickoff show, and as a result, Big E has been given an Intercontinental Championship match against Sami Zayn on SmackDown later this week.
There was some concern after TLC last night that Roman Reigns had picked up an injury after he was seen favouring his shoulder, however, Fightful quickly reported that Roman was actually fully healthy.
