Former Champion Compares Bronson Reed Beating Roman Reigns To Previous WWE Rite Of Passage WWE

A WWE Hall of Famer has commented on Bronson Reed defeating Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel, comparing this to a previous company rite of passage.

The first match of the October 11 WWE premium live event saw a huge upset take place, with Bronson Reed pinning Roman Reigns in their Australian Street Fight.

Speaking on Something To Wrestle, JBL praised Reed, noting that Reigns feels like WWE’s measuring stick, in the same way The Undertaker was back in the 1990s.

JBL explained:

“Bronson Reed is a stud man. This guy can freakin’ work, he can go. And good on Roman Reigns for putting this guy over, that’s fantastic.

“Back in the day, back in the ’90s, when you’d come in, you had to work with Undertaker, and that was kind of the rite of passage.

“If you did well, you stayed, if you did poorly, you get fired, because you knew it wasn’t Taker – if you had a bad match, and it was a two segment match, it was not Taker.

“Nowadays, guys like Roman are these guys who are really the barometer out there. Guys didn’t beat Taker, you had a match with him, but you got over by having a competitive match for two segments with him.

“With Roman, same thing, having a competitive match for 20 minutes. This guy goes over, in his home country. This is huge for Bronson.

“I love it, I think it’s fantastic. This guy can go. He reminds me a lot of Gary Albright, the way he suplexes, those close Saito type suplexes. Man, this guy can freakin’ work man. I’m excited about this.”
