WWE Hall Of Famer Highlights Glaring Issue With Star Rating System

WWE Hall Of Famer Highlights Glaring Issue With Star Rating System Wrestling Observer

A WWE Hall of Famer has highlighted a glaring issue with the star rating system used by the likes of Dave Meltzer.

Whilst Dave Meltzer’s system generates a lot of conversation about whether a particular match deserves the rating it is given, Bully Ray has taken a more practical approach to the issue.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Bully Ray explained his issue, saying:

“So me and Jeff Hardy in the cage at [2013] Lockdown. That sold more tickets to any pay-per-view or event in the United States for TNA and IMPACT than any other show ever.

“That alone is a five-star performance to me.”

He would also criticize the source of the rating system, focusing on who he feels can give that sort of feedback, adding:

“Here’s the thing with the with the star ratings — and I bust chops.

“If Ric Flair wants to give out star ratings on a match, I’ll start to listen.

“If Hulk Hogan wants to give out star ratings, I’ll start to listen.

“If Ricky Steamboat wants to give out star ratings, [I’ll listen]. You get my point.”

As for the value of the rating system to wrestlers themselves, Bully Ray took a realistic approach, concluding:

“I don’t give out star ratings. I give bag of money ratings because you can’t pay your mortgage with a star rating. But you can pay your mortgage with a bag of money.”
