WWE backstage interviewer Cathy Kelley has revealed that she was recently diagnosed with autism.
With the introduction of reality shows such as WWE Unreal and prevalence of social media, WWE fans have more insight into the private lives and personalities of superstars now more than ever.
While not an in-ring talent, there are few more consistent figures on WWE programming than Cathy Kelley, who, since her WWE return in October 2022, has worked as a backstage correspondent for Raw and SmackDown – with the latter being her current full-time home.
Despite fans knowing Kelley for her confident interviewing skills and chemistry with many members of the WWE locker room, during an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Kelley revealed that she was recently diagnosed with autism, something that she says makes her “a little bit more” introverted than a “typical person.”
“I think it’s just a different side to me (on camera). I was recently diagnosed with autism, and I recognize that it changes a lot of the social dynamics that I have. So when I say introverted, I feel like it’s a little bit more than a typical person would be.”
Cathy Kelley Discusses Main Difference Between Her First & Second WWE Run
2026 marks 10 years since Kelley made her debut in WWE as an NXT correspondent – a role she would hold until her departure in early 2020.
During the same interview with Chris Van Vliet, Kelley opened up about the main difference between her first and second runs in WWE: confidence:
Kelley said:
“Probably just confidence. I think that over time you get more comfortable I think my work is always going to be better if it’s someone that I’m friends with. But yeah, I think it’s confidence.”
As well as a more prominent role on WWE TV in comparison to her first run in the company, Kelley last year passed a different milestone in her career when she was cast in her first movie role, which was later revealed to be action-comedy Karate Ghost, starring Jim Belushi, Tim Rozon, WWE legend Trish Stratus among others.
Cathy Kelley Compares Working On WWE Raw & SmackDown
While she’s currently an official member of the SmackDown broadcast team, Kelley has previously worked full-time on Raw and has often filled in on the red brand in the absence of Jackie Redmond, who juggles her WWE duties with her work for the NHL.
Kelley said that while the length of the show differs, Raw and SmackDown largely work the same, with the main difference being the talent roster she works alongside:
“I think every single time that I switch, it’s just relearning the roster. I think we talked about this last time, it’s just like developing a different relationship with each Superstar, so that stays like a through line, and having to remember what’s happened in the past.”
