A current WWE champion has spoken of their desire to face off with a retiring star one final time before they hang up their boots.
On July 25, it was reported by Tokyo Sports that veteran WWE star Meiko Satomura is set to retire from in-ring competition in 2025.
The Japanese star recently returned to the ring for the company’s tour of Japan, and even challenged former WWE Women’s Champion Bayley for her title on July 27 in Tokyo.
Despite Satomura being unsuccessful in her attempts to win that title, she may have another opportunity to win gold before she steps away from the ring, as WWE NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez has revealed her wish to face Satomura again.
Perez actually faced Satomura twice in NXT, and competed in what was the veteran’s last televised match at NXT Roadblock in March 2023 – with Perez then in the middle of her first run as NXT Women’s Champion.
Speaking to Stephanie Chase, Perez spoke of potentially facing Satomura for a third time:
“Meiko Satomura, she was my dream opponent probably since I was about 16 years old, so coming to WWE and right away getting two matches against her within a few months of me being there was just insane, kind of like a ‘pinch me moment.’
“I really think that she is, if not the best, one of the best women’s wrestlers. Not women’s wrestlers, one of the best wrestlers in the entire world. I am sad to see that she is gong to be retiring next year, but I really, really hope I get to have just one more match.”
WrestleTalk will provide more updates on Satomura’s retirement plans as they become available.
Perez was recently called out by new WWE signing Stephanie Vaquer online after the NXT Women’s Champion had mentioned the former CMLL star by name on TV – click here for full details.
