Speculation has been fuelled surrounding a new potential challenger for Liv Morgan’s WWE Women’s World Championship, with Morgan pinned in a recent dark match.
Morgan’s revenge tour took a major turn at SummerSlam, where the Women’s World Champion finally defeated her nemesis Rhea Ripley to retain her gold.
Dominik Mysterio helped Morgan to secure the victory, before kissing the champion, officially cutting ties with Ripley.
Morgan and Mysterio were in action together following the August 9 SmackDown episode, with the duo competing in mixed tag-team action.
The duo faced off against Braun Strowman and Kairi Sane in an non-televised dark match.
In the closing moments of the match, Sane hit Liv Morgan with a variation of her InSane elbow, with Sane jumping off Strowman’s shoulders rather than the ropes.
Sane was surprisingly able to pin the Women’s World Champion to win the match for her team.
While baby faces often win post-SmackDown dark matches to send the crowd home happy, WWE often used non-televised matches to test out potential feuds before bringing them to TV.
Sane picking up a pinfall victory over the current champion has fuelled speculation that she will soon receive a title shot.
Kairi Sane and IYO SKY will have the chance to earn a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Championship when they face off against Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark in a #1 contender’s match on Monday’s (August 12) Raw episode.
