There has been major praise internally in WWE this year for a top WWE star, with this star recently winning and defending a championship.
IYO SKY’s road to WrestleMania 41 was an unconventional one, with the Japanese star inserting herself into the world title picture ahead of the Show of Shows by… well, winning a world title!
With SKY defeating Rhea Ripley for the gold on the March 3 Raw episode, and successfully defending the title against Ripley and Bianca Belair at WrestleMania, the current champion is arguably on the run of her career.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a WWE source “high-up in decision making” noted that they consider IYO SKY the breakaway star of 2025 already.
Discussing this praise, Meltzer wrote:
“One person high up in decision making noted to us that Sky has been considered breakaway star this year, combining the fire and voice inflections that made Asuka a strong promo without speaking English and ‘her ridiculously great workrate, and everyone loves working with her, so no one has a problem making her shine, letting her shine, and designing a match for her to shine.'”
SKY last wrestled on the May 5 Raw episode, defeating Roxanne Perez in singles action.
This came after SKY’s recent NXT return, during which she and Jordynne Grace defeated Giulia & Roxanne Perez on the April 29 episode.
The WWE Women’s World Champion is set to team with former champion Rhea Ripley against Giulia and Perez on the May 12 edition of Raw.
