Former WWE World Champion Addresses Criticism About New Title WWE

WWE Hall of Famer and NXT commentator Booker T has shared his honest thoughts on the new World Heavyweight Championship.

The new title was announced by Triple H in late-April, with the WWE chief content officer stating that this titleholder will be a fighting champion, opposed to WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who has a part-time schedule.

With this description, and the fact that Reigns has held his gold for nearly 1000 days, many have criticised the introduction of a new world title, believing that it’s a consolation prize.

Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T defended the new strap.

Addressing claims that the World Heavyweight Championship is just a secondary title, he said:

“I don’t look at it that way, I just don’t, I just can’t, you know, find myself looking at the title being a secondary title or anything like that.

“I think pulling the trigger and separating the championship and making, you know, one (for one) brand, one for the other, I think that’s good for everybody.

“People saying that this is a secondary championship, they’ve never been in that position where they were bestowed upon them the title of champion.

“World champion. That right there for a young kid in this business is something that he dreams of forever.”

Despite the gold being Raw-exclusive, one half of the tournament for the gold will be contested on SmackDown.

The real reason why SmackDown stars are involved with the tournament has now been revealed.

On Monday’s (May 8) edition of Raw, Seth Rollins advanced to the tournament finals, which will take place at the May 27 Night of Champions event.
