A WWE star has won a championship at an independent show, winning the gold at an event ran by his father’s promotion.
Carlito was in action on Saturday, May 31 at WWC Summer Madness.
During this event, the WWE name challenged for Ray González’ WWC Puerto Rico Championship.
Carlito was ultimately victorious, pinning González to become WWC Puerto Rico Champion while still contracted to WWE.
You can view a clip from the closing moments of this match below.
The WWC promotion is owned by Carlito’s father, Carlos Colon. When Carlito was originally announced for the May 31 show, WWC’s statement noted that they had reached an agreement with WWE, and that Raw General Manager Adam Pearce had “authorized Carlito to be present to settle outstanding scores in Puerto Rico.”
Carlito currently appears on WWE Raw as part of the Judgment Day faction, alongside Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.
He most recently wrestled on WWE TV during the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the April 18 edition of SmackDown, but has been involved in numerous physical segments since then.
Two other WWE stars are set to challenge for an AAA championship at the upcoming Triplemania Regia show, which you can read more about right here.
