WWE Championship Match Canceled

WWE Championship Match Canceled WWE

A championship match, previously scheduled for the Friday, February 28 episode of WWE SmackDown has been officially canceled.

After losing his United States Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura back at Survivor Series in November, The Mega Star LA Knight was set to get his chance to recapture his former prize on tonight’s SmackDown in Toronto.

Despite the match being officially announced for the show ahead of time, WWE has confirmed a big change to their plans just hours before SmackDown is due to air.

In a video posted to WWE’s Twitter, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that a “definitive number one contender” for Nakamura’s US Title needed to be crowned in order to silent any debate regarding who is deserving of that spot.

Instead of Knight facing Nakamura for the title, he will compete in a mini tournament on tonight’s SmackDown alongside five other stars on the brand.

Three singles matches will be held, with the winners of those matches then competing in a three-way match later in the show to determine who will face Nakamura.

Those singles matches are: LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar, Carmelo Hayes vs. Braun Strowman and Andrade vs. Solo Sikoa.

It was not confirmed when the winner of the tournament will face Nakamura for the United States Championship, but we will provide further updates when this is announced.
