WWE Championship Match Set For Clash Of Champions

WWE Championship Match Set For Clash Of Champions

The WWE Championship match for the September 27 Clash of Champions pay-per-view was confirmed on tonight’s episode of Raw.

Tonight, three singles matches were held to determine the participants in a three-way later in the show, with the eventual winner challenging Drew McIntyre for the title at Clash.

The first of the singles matches saw Keith Lee beat Dolph Ziggler in a match that lasted a lot longer than Lee’s win over Randy Orton at Payback a day earlier.

The second saw Randy Orton beat Kevin Owens in just a few seconds after Aleister Black ambushed Owens before the match got underway. Before the entrances we saw Orton coming out of Black’s spooky room, presumably to make some sort of deal regarding the attack.

The third qualifier was supposed to be Seth Rollins vs Rey Mysterio, but WWE announced that Mysterio suffered a torn triceps at Payback, so Rollins faced Dominik Mysterio instead, and it was Rollins who picked up the win.

That means the three-way was Lee vs Orton vs Rollins, and it was Orton who won to make a SummerSlam rematch. Lee hit his Spirit Bomb finish on Rollins, but Orton slid in with an RKO to Lee, then pinned Rollins for the win.

McIntyre has reigned as WWE Champion since he beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania in April. Since then he’s picked up retentions over Big Show, Andrade, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton.

He was recently taken off TV with a storyline hairline jaw fracture injury suffered after multiple punt kicks by Orton last week on Raw.
