A WWE star has teased an eventual rematch after losing a championship match on this week’s edition of SmackDown.
Ilja Dragunov hosted another US Championship open challenge on the November 7 show, which was ultimately answered by Johnny Gargano.
While Gargano was unable to defeat Dragunov on this occasion, the SmackDown star has vowed that this won’t be the last time he stands across the ring from the current US Champion.
Taking to Twitter after the bout, Johnny Gargano wrote:
First time ever, but definitely not the last time ever..
You know what they say about Batman with prep.
Another championship did change hands on the show, with Chelsea Green defeating Giulia to become a two-time WWE Women’s US Champion.
Ilja Dragunov became the men’s US Champion on the October 17 SmackDown episode, defeating Sami Zayn in his first match since September 2024.
Johnny Gargano has yet to hold a singles title on the main roster, but is a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion alongside Tommaso Ciampa.
He had a decorated singles career in WWE NXT, holding the NXT Champion once, and holding the North American Title on three separate occasions.
