WWE Championship To Be Renamed? WWE

WWE star Tony D’Angelo has teased renaming the NXT Heritage Cup Championship following his victory on this week’s edition of NXT.

The NXT Heritage Cup changed hands on the May 14 NXT episode, with D’Angelo defeating Charlie Dempsey to win the gold.

NXT has shared a new video to Twitter showing Shawn Michaels celebrating with D’Angelo backstage.

After Michaels pointed out that this was D’Angelo’s first singles title win in WWE, the Don noted that he’s going to call the championship the “Italian Heritage Cup”.

You can watch this video below.

D’Angelo doubled down on Twitter, when replying to Shawn Michaels’ congratulations post.

He wrote:

Italian heritage cup champion. THE DON!

I appreciate you Shawn!

The Heritage Cup was introduced in November 2020 as the ‘NXT UK Heritage Cup’, with A-Kid (Axiom) becoming the inaugural champion on the now-defunct NXT UK brand.

The gold wasn’t seen for several months after NXT UK ended in September 2022, until then-champion Noam Dar brought it back on NXT TV in April 2023.

An update has emerged on a match to crown the first holder of a new WWE championship, which you can read more about right here.
