The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Rey Mysterio team with Ricochet and Humberto Carrillo to take on The O.C in six-man tag team action.
Despite pinning Ricochet to pick up the win for his team, it was not AJ Styles that was standing tall after the show went off the air. Styles’ WrestleMania 35 opponent Randy Orton laid out the former WWE Champion with an RKO.
However, it has since been reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the original plans for the match were slightly different:
“There were NO plans for Orton to officially be a part of this match. Original script had same six men in match, just different finish. Original was Orton interfering during the match and giving Styles an RKO which led to Mysterio pinning Styles for the win. Then Orton would give RKOs to Anderson and Gallows. Again, there were no plans to have Orton in the match”
AJ Styles is set to challenge Rey Mysterio for the United States Championship next week on Raw. I fully expect Randy Orton to cost AJ the match, possibly leading to the two veterans clashing at TLC next week.
