In a change of plans made by WWE, Kofi Kingston is now the front-runner to challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at the Fastlane pay-per-view on March 10, reports Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.
WWE reportedly had plans in place for both Fastlane and WrestleMania that didn’t involve the Ghanaian, but due to the overwhelmingly positive and deserved reactions to Kingston’s recent performances, WWE has changed their plans and inserted Kofi in as the Fastlane challenger.
Kingston was a last-minute replacement for the injured Mustafa Ali in both Sunday’s Elimination Chamber match and last Tuesday’s gauntlet match, and put in stellar performances in both.
He was eliminated by AJ Styles in the gauntlet after overcoming Bryan, Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe, and was the runner-up in the WWE Title Chamber on Sunday.
Dave Meltzer spoke on Wrestling Observer Radio yesterday, before WWE changed their plans, saying that Bryan’s planned opponent for ‘Mania is a returning wrestler:This change is big if true, and if so, fair play to WWE for listening to the fans and gauging how over and deserving of this spotlight Kingston really is.
Bryan’s Fastlane challenger will be officially revealed on SmackDown Live tonight, and you can check back to the site later for live coverage throughout the show.
