WWE Changing Strategy For Major PPV Shows

WWE Changing Strategy For Major PPV Shows WWE

WWE is set to hold their first major premium live event in the United Kingdom in thirty years next month, when WWE brings Clash at the Castle to Cardiff, Wales.

When the show was announced, it was a surprise to see WWE bringing the show to Cardiff, as most expected the show to take place in London.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the show is heading to Cardiff due to the city paying the company for the event, before noting that WWE is changing their strategy for major events in the future, taking them to the cities that bid the most on them.

He said:

“They mentioned also, that with Cardiff, not only are they getting ticket revenue, but the city of Cardiff is actually paying for them to come in. Which probably is why they went to Cardiff and not London.

“And they are working on, for the biggest shows of the year, to do what they do for WrestleMania, which is essentially to put them up for bidding from cities.

“So say you want SummerSlam, say you want Royal Rumble, instead of WWE going to Houston, Texas because they feel it’s a market they can sell 30,000-40,000 tickets at the stadium, they will be going still to a stadium – but they want the city to pay them to bring them in because they’re bringing tourism and things like that to the city.

“So the idea is for the big shows, going forward, this is their attempt and what they’re gonna try to do.”

The card for the Clash at the Castle show continues to take shape on WWE television, but there are still a lot of possible directions that WWE could head in. Here is our updated predicted card for the event.

Drew McIntyre is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of the show, and has teased a huge change for the event by bringing back his old theme song.

If you’re in the UK but didn’t manage to get tickets to Clash at the Castle on September 3, WrestleTalk is hosting a watch party at The Joiner on Worship in Shoreditch, London, and we’d love for you to join us! Click here for more details.
