Former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella has addressed the idea that she didn’t like one of her previous characters.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Carmella recently discussed her WWE career, noting that her Untouchable (Tredici) character wasn’t necessarily something she wanted to do.
She noted in the interview:
“When I first debuted, I loved being the ‘moonwalking, trash-talking Princess of Staten Island’, I loved all of that. And then, I kind of transitioned into the Tredici Carmella where I had the curtain and the champagne and the sommelier, and that’s not necessarily what I wanted to do, but it’s what I had to do.
“And then it turned into the most beautiful woman, which is another thing that I wasn’t really that fond of, but you gotta do what you gotta do, wearing the mask and all this stuff. So when I came back I was like, ‘Can I please just be who I wanna be? Please let me return to being the Princess of Staten Island, but a little elevated’. And that’s what I did, and I was so excited to get into that role, and I think I was just cooking with gas.”

Carmella has now replied to a Twitter user, clarifying that she wasn’t saying that she didn’t like the character, she just didn’t want a new character at the time.
Noting that she actually pitched this gimmick, Carmella wrote:
It’s not that I didn’t like it. I just didn’t want a new character. And it didn’t pan out the way it originally started so it felt like I wasn’t doing the character justice. When I was told I needed a new direction I went all in and pitched this entire character.
Carmella hasn’t wrestled since March 2023, with the former champion giving birth to her and SmackDown commentator Corey Graves’ first child together in November.
