Chelsea Green returned to WWE in January 2023 at that year’s Royal Rumble, and a former star has praised her rise.
Having previously been released in April 2021, Green’s return has seen her become a former WWE Women’s United States Champion and Women’s Tag Team Champion.
During a recent episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, her real-life husband and fellow wrestler Matt Cardona weighed in on the renaissance of Chelsea Green.
Speaking about the pride he has for Chelsea Green, the former Zack Ryder, called himself her “biggest fan”, saying:
“So proud of her. Like I’m her biggest fan. Rooting her on, you know?
“I get all her trading cards, all her action figures, all her shirts.”
Looking back on what she’s achieved following her original release leading to her subsequent WWE return, Cardona stated:
“I knew when she got released the first time they missed the boat, you know, and she was killing it on the indies.”
After being released from her contract, Green headed to Ring of Honor and then made a return to Impact Wrestling, leaving in November 2022.
With Cardona also in Impact Wrestling at the time, he would note that his wife “had to go back” to WWE when the opportunity arose.
Comparing Green’s two runs in WWE, Cardona said that the talent was always there, but opportunities were not necessarily so, explaining:
“She’s always had the talent, but she didn’t get the opportunity. And that’s fine. Not everyone always gets an opportunity. But she did this time around and she is making the most of it.”
Cardona would go on to say that Green has the ability to maximize her screen time, however limited it may be, leading fans to remember her.
While Green may have returned to WWE, Cardona is yet to be re-signed by the company having been released in 2020.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Cardona expressed his surprise that he hasn’t been brought back into WWE.
