WWE Clash At The Castle To Do Largest Non-WrestleMania Gate In Pro-Wrestling History WWE

An upcoming WWE show is set to draw the largest gate in pro-wrestling history, excluding WrestleMania events.

WWE returns to the UK for the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event on September 3. Tickets for the event, which will emanate from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, went on sale last week.

Per Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a little over 40,000 tickets have been shifted for the event.

Stating that WWE anticipates a significant number of seats to be sold between now and September, Meltzer wrote:

“The 9/3 (Clash) at the Castle show at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales after the first week of just over 40,000. They did 30,000 in the pre-sale and about 10,000 more on the first day to the public on 5/20. The sales were slightly ahead of the pace of WrestleMania which had about 37,500 tickets sold for each night after the first week. A true sellout for that stadium would be 69,000, roughly 10,000 more than each night of WrestleMania did. 30,000 to go is a lot, but they would also be reducing the prices near the show and doing discounts.

“With 85,000 people requesting ticket codes for Cardiff, and it being the first PPV worldwide PPV show in the U.K. (there were a few U.K. only PPVs in the late 90s) since the famous 1992 SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium, the feeling was the pent-up demand would lead to an early sellout.

“Still, WWE officials noted to us that they were very happy with the sales numbers, noting the show will do the largest non-WrestleMania gate in the history of pro wrestling and actually beat most WrestleManias for that matter.”

Current WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is still advertised for the event, even after signing a new WWE deal which will see him work less dates for the company.

Reigns’ opponent for Clash at the Castle has reportedly been revealed.

WWE is currently preparing for its Hell in a Cell Premium Live Event on June 5. Check out the updated card for the event right here.
