WWE’s Cody Rhodes Says AEW Star Has Been ‘So Influential’ On His Career WWE, AEW

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has heaped praise on an AEW star, explaining how how “influential” they have been on his career.

Given how much has happened since Cody Rhodes’ first WWE run ended eight years ago, its easy to forget the memorable feuds The American Nightmare had between 2007-2016.

One of which came in 2012, when Rhodes was engaged in a program with current AEW star Paul Wight (aka Big Show), facing off against the giant at both WrestleMania 28 and Extreme Rules 2012.

Rhodes was asked about his Tables match with Wight at that event during an interview with Adrian Hernandez, a match Rhodes won in unique fashion as Wight stepped through a table rather than being put through it traditionally.

Rhodes recalled working with Wight and the impact he had on his career:

“It’s fun to pull back the curtain on this one now because I do think this person deserves credit for it and didn’t get any ’cause so many people thought, ‘Oh, maybe that wasn’t supposed to happen’ — the Big Show.

“Big Show was so influential in my career and doesn’t even realize it because I was going through it when I was going up against him and, man, I’m lucky to have had that experience with him.”

On the finish to the match in particular, Rhodes attributed the idea to WWE official Michael Hayes, explaining:

“That was his idea, Michael Hayes was right there to say, ‘Yep, let’s do it,’ and it ended up being a very fun moment.”

Rhodes next defence of his Undisputed WWE Championship has now been officially announced – click here for full details.
