Top WWE Star Opens Up About Championship ‘Vindication’ WWE

A top WWE star has said that becoming a champion would be “vindication” for the audiences who are now witnessing his story.

Cody Rhodes left WWE in 2016, embarking on a successful tour of the independent wrestling scene, taking in Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling and NJPW before helping found AEW in 2018.

He would remain with the Tony Khan-led company until his return to WWE in 2022 at WrestleMania 38.

Fast forward a year and Rhodes is set to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39 in April.

Speaking to Fightful, The American Nightmare described what becoming the top champion in WWE would mean to him, saying:

“It would mean vindication.

“I’ve made a great career out of proving people wrong, and I’ve taken the attitude as of now about proving people right, especially this new audience with WWE that has really warmly welcomed me back.

“A whole new audience that kind of pairs well with the independent audience I was able to bring over and hopefully bring as many folks as I could. They pair so well together.

“It’s vindication for both those who are just in it now; this is their first ride with ‘The American Nightmare.’ They like what they’re seeing.

“Then, it’s vindication for those who have been there every step of the way.”

Rhodes would also discuss his schedule plans for becoming WWE Champion, hoping to deliver a “more is more” mentality.

He recently suggested that his championship match against Reigns would take place on night 2 of WrestleMania 39.

Rhodes also revealed his a special WrestleMania 39 T-shirt themes around the “Finish the Story” motif.
