An update has emerged on whether WWE has plans for a Cody Rhodes heel turn following recent comments made by The Rock.
When The Rock returned in an attempt to persuade Rhodes to ‘sell his soul’ as the on-screen storyline, Rock’s legitimate initial creative pitch was for Rhodes to turn heel and side with him.
That didn’t end up happening, as things were changed to John Cena turning heel as part of that storyline instead, with Rhodes remaining a babyface.
However, The Rock has since commented that Rhodes turning heel is something WWE could revisit down the line, so it seems he’s still keen on that idea.
A new report from Fightful Select has provided an update, noting that outside of Rock’s own comments and ideas, there are no current plans for Rhodes to turn heel.
Fightful indicates that “people around Rhodes” were against the pitch when it was first brought up, due to WWE’s strong gates, merch and ticket numbers with Rhodes as a babyface, and because he was still getting big babyface reactions.
As of WrestleMania, WWE had plans in place for Rhodes as a babyface throughout the rest of 2025.
WWE’s official website – as of this writing – is still advertising Rhodes for an appearance at this week’s May 16 episode of SmackDown after being absent since his WrestleMania loss to John Cena.
