Free Agent With WWE Interest Makes Surprise Return

Free Agent With WWE Interest Makes Surprise Return WWE

A free agent who had previously been on WWE’s radar as a potential signing has made a surprise return and set their sights on gold.

Colby Corino, the son of NXT trainer and producer and ECW legend Steve Corino, was previously being sought after by WWE with the reported ‘hiring freeze’ being a stumbling block.

Corino had explained that a background check had raised an issue that he states he needed to “handle” before he would be “good to go”.

According to Corino, his status with the WWE was recently “not a closed door, but it’s kind of a ‘not right now’ thing.”

It was previously reported that Corino’s WWE move was set to be made official as of him finishing up with the NWA, with his contract expiring on January 1.

A further report had stated, however, that Corino hasn’t been signed but was a free agent.

On June 5, 2023, Colby Corino make his surprise return to the NWA in a six-man scramble batch for a shot at the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Corino was announced as the seventh man in the six-man scramble with PJ Hawx, Flip Gordon, Gaagz the Gymp, Joe Alonzo, Eric Jackson, and Jarron Fulton already in the match.

This marks Corino’s first NWA match since NWA Powerrr in December 2022 as part of The Champions Series.

In his return match, Corino would be victorious, scoring the pin over Flip Gordon and earning his shot at the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship.

The title is currently held by Kerry Morton who confronted Colby Corino after the six-man scramble match.
