WWE Confident They’ll Sign Major Star Whose Contract Is Set To Expire WWE

MJF has hyped up the ‘bidding war of 2024’, well we may be on the cusp of the ‘bidding spree of 2023’.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling is up relatively soon, and he is expect to leave the company.

Those with NJPW that have spoken to Fightful are of the belief that both WWE and AEW are interested in signing the Switchblade, with sources within WWE seeming confident that they would be able to secure him.

It is obviously worth noting that is far from official, with it being noted that the company are unable to officially reach out to him until his deal is up. Until that happens, there’s no guarantee he’ll leave NJPW.

The timing is interesting, as White has been booked in a “loser leaves Japan” match on February 11 against Hikuleo, with it also recently being reported that WWE has also expressed interest in signing Hikuleo.

This now puts the result of the match in doubt, with those on the NJPW roster of the belief that Jay White wants to be in the United States for the time being.

White main evented last week’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 show, where he lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Kazuchika Okada.

The report notes that no deal has been finalized, and can’t be until White’s NJPW deal is up. Neither NJPW or White have responded to Fightful’s questions regarding the matter.
