Despite running against a New Japan show that has sold better than they realised and a Wales-Ireland rugby game that is going to make travel and accommodation difficult for fans, WWE is doubling down on NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff.
This morning the promotion announced that TakeOver would be held in the 5,000 capacity Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, a venue where WWE often holds main roster house shows during European tours.
NXT UK star Eddie Dennis announced the news via WWE UK’s Twitter account in Welsh, making it the first WWE promo ever delivered in the language:

WWE running such a large building for an NXT UK event is a surprise, especially given the competition that day.
Most onlookers expected the promotion to run in a smaller venue that it could easily fill, especially as the promotion’s maximum crowd (thus far) is around the 2,000 mark.
In addition to TakeOver, NXT UK is also taping television the following night in the same building.
Names advertised for the August 31 event include WALTER, Toni Storm, Zack Gibson, James Drake, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate and Trent Seven.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10am at this link.
