In the least surprising news of the day, WWE confirmed on last night’s Raw that the WrestleMania triple threat main event between Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and People’s Champion Becky Lynch will indeed be a “winner takes all” match.
It’s clear that the ladies weren’t all that pleased with this as they all got themselves arrested for wrestling in a wrestling ring, but it does mean that we will have a double champion when WrestleMania goes off air on Sunday night (Monday morning).
The big winner in this situation is Becky Lynch. Not only is she widely expected to win on Sunday and become double champion, but she also has nothing to lose as she’s the only non-champion going into the match.
With Ronda likely taking time out after WrestleMania, WWE will want to build the women’s divisions around Becky and Charlotte, with Charlotte likely running with an “I got screwed because you didn’t beat me” gimmick if Becky manages to pin or submit Ronda.
What it means for the weeks after WrestleMania we’ll have to wait and see, but presumably the winner would have to appear on both brands until one of the belts is dropped. Another possibility of course is that the belts will be unified, but Dave Melzter is reporting that this is not the plan for the time being.
