New Day star Xavier Woods tweeted yesterday that he had suffered some kind of Achilles tendon injury during WWE’s tour of Australia, and it seems that the injury is worse than feared.
Achilles injuries are always bad, but Wrestling Observer Radio is reporting that it could well be an Achilles tendon tear, something that can take up to 6 months to recover from.
This would rule Woods out of the rest of 2019, and could even make him a risk for WrestleMania and the build to the biggest show of the wrestling calendar.
The injury comes at a terrible time for Woods and his stable the New Day, as they will now be without a key member. It will likely cement Kofi Kingston’s role as a tag team wrestler even more following the abrupt end to his WWE Championship reign.
Thankfully both Kofi and Big E seem to be fit and healthy, and should be able to carry the team for as long as necessary. As Woods is such a great talker, hopefully he can be brought back early in a non-wrestling role.
Everyone at WrestleTalk wishes Xavier Woods a very speedy recovery, and we hope to see him back in the ring very soon.
