WWE Creative Discussing Potential AEW Signing WWE/AEW

A new report has revealed that WWE creative plans have been discussed for former AEW World Trios Champion Malakai Black.

On the January 8 edition of AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay defeated House of Black’s Buddy Matthews. Post match, Ospreay cut a promo telling Buddy and Brody King that they don’t need a leader and should win gold on their own.

Fightful Select then provided a report indicating that those within AEW believe Malakai Black is finishing up with the company, which you can read here.

Black has found himself in the news in regards to a potential WWE return since the company allegedly contacted him and other former stars when Triple H took over main roster creative in 2022.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there has been talk in WWE creative to expect Malakai Black back when he is free and clear from All Elite Wrestling. He wrote:

“That’s been the case for a while, but evidently there has been talk in WWE creative about him of late.”

In regards to Black’s AEW departure, Meltzer stated that while word in AEW backstage is that Black is gone, no one would confirm the exit. Meltzer wrote:

“It’s been reported elsewhere, and one person close to the situation said they were confirming it to us but when we asked officially there was neither a confirmation nor a denial. Nobody expects him back.”

Malakai Black last wrestled on AEW TV in a loss alongside Brody King to Private Party in a four-way with The Outrunners and The Acclaimed for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Full Gear.

We will provide further updates on Black’s AEW contract status and potential WWE return as/when more information becomes available.

Amid the uncertainty regarding his future, Black has been announced for a match in another promotion – click here of full details.
