One of the biggest unpredictable rises of last year came about when former NXT Tag Team Champion Buddy Murphy set 205 Live on fire (not literally, to be clear). Following countless incredible matches, the ‘Juggernaut’ finally became the WWE Cruiserweight Champion by beating Cedric Alexander in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia at Super Show-Down.
As it stands, Murphy is slated to make his WrestleMania debut this year as he defends his title against the winner of the ongoing tournament taking place on the purple brand.
Oddly, the current champ sent out a tweet this morning, stating that he will be making an announcement later this evening regarding his immediate future in WWE:
Tonight I’ll be making a announcement about my immediate future with WWE. 👋🍹

What this could be is anyone’s guess. At the end of the tweet, however, Murphy uses the ‘waving’ and ‘cocktail’ emojis, possibly suggesting a break from the promotion. That said, it would be incredibly out of character for the WWE Cruiserweight Champion to suddenly disappear.
There is some reason to believe that he is unhappy with the company, given that the title he currently holds is more often than not relegated to pay-per-view pre-shows. He even recently tweeted the following after his brilliant bout against Akira Tozawa on the Elimination Chamber Kick-Off Show:
I deserve better!….

I was there too….

This is, of course, simply speculation. Perhaps he is looking to follow former 205 Live star Mustafa Ali over to SmackDown Live. Or maybe he is just tired of seeing his fiancée Alexa Bliss swoon over the likes of EC3 and Finn Bálor on Raw.
Who knows? I guess we’ll just have to find out later on tonight. Stay tuned with WrestleTalk.com for updates.
