A former WWE star has reflected on a losing streak that lasted for two years and the impact it had on his time in the company.
Losing a total of 269 consecutive matches might suggest to some wrestling fans that Curt Hawkins was being devalued.
Speaking on The Sessions with Renee Paquette Brian Myers, the man behind the Hawkins name, had a different take, saying:
“So one day, I kept getting tweeted this article, and it was some dirt sheet that wrote an article saying I had lost over 100 matches in a row.”
“But instead of being all sad about it, [I was like] ‘Well, that’s definitely true.’
“I was pitching to the writers this losing streak, and whoever would listen would listen.
“Not many people in wrestling want to lose all the time.”
Myers suggested that the losing streak wasn’t something that had been pitched and that it just appeared to happen organically.
Once Vince McMahon was made aware of the story potential, though, Myers said that the losing streak continued.
Myers would know that spots at the very top of the WWE card were limited and reflected on his own involvement in the company, explaining:
“I’m still part of the team, still part of the show.
“I never made more money, had more fun.
“It was incredible actually, and then the crowd organically turned me babyface.”
Eventually, the losing streak would end in 2019 but Paul Heyman would bring it back when he took over creative.
Myers was released by WWE in April 2020 as part of the budget cuts.
Since leaving WWE, Myers has been a fixture of the Impact Wrestling roster.
