An update has emerged on a potential WWE signing following their recent farewell, with their current promotion addressing his status.
David Finlay previously appeared to say goodbye to the fans in New Japan Pro-Wrestling at The New Beginning in Osaka event after losing to Callum Newman.
With Finlay reportedly exploring his options in the United States post-NJPW, rumors have swirled that he could sign with AEW or WWE, with the latter being home to his father, Fit Finlay, and brother, Uriah Connors.
While it remains to be seen where Finlay will land, an update has emerged on his next in-ring appearance in the United States.
NJPW The New Beginning USA marks a return for the Japan-based promotion to the United States, with the upcoming show taking place in Trenton, New Jersey on February 27.
As announced by NJPW, David Finlay will be in action against Fred Rosser, known to WWE fans as Darren Young.
Addressing speculation surrounding David Finlay, NJPW shared the following preview for the match:
“Another first-time singles matchup sees Fred Rosser going one-on-one with David Finlay. After a long feud with United Empire, Finlay had stated that he wanted new competition in New Jersey.
“That competition comes in the form of NJPW Academy coach and NJPW US stalwart Fred Rosser.
“Rosser and Finlay have never competed against one another before, and after emotional scenes after defeat to Callum Newman in Osaka February 11, speculation is rife that this bout may be a first-time, last-time affair. Who will emerge victorious?”
Over in NXT, a faction of multi-generational stars has recently formed, with Lexis King, Ariana Grace, Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo, Charlie Dempsey and the aforementioned Uriah Connors set to be known as ‘Birthright‘.
King recently reacted to a fan asking if David Finlay could be a member of that collective, with the NXT star making it clear that he’d be a fit ‘as long as he likes to fight!’
Finlay isn’t the only NJPW star who reportedly has interest within WWE, with EVIL having recently parted ways with New Japan.
